How to Get Fun, Flashy Reception Photos

Do you want want those super-funny-huge-all-night-dance-party-with-your-friends photos? Here are a few tips:

  1. You need to actually spend time having fun with your friends! Prioritize dancing together, taking photos together, taking a shot together, group toasts, whatever it is, make sure you’re hanging out with your people!

  2. Hire a really good DJ or band. A Spotify playlist on shuffle (even a really good playlist) will not have the same effect as a DJ who knows how to read a crowd and keep everyone having fun. The best weddings and parties always have a super fun DJ or a really great band setting the tone. And one less thing for you or your friends to worry about ❤️

  3. Set expectations with your vendors. As much experience as wedding vendors have, you know your people and guests better than they do. A vendor/venue may try to insist that dancing at your reception will not last as long as you’d like (this happened to me and boy were they wrong), but if you know that your family and friend group have a history of crazy huge late night dance parties then you need to speak up! People pleasing happens a lot with vendor expectations and you may need to *kindly* push a little bit to make sure your wants are being met.

  4. Be silly and don’t be embarrassed about it. These photos will be a treasure among you, your partner, and your friend group for years and I guarantee you’ll all be laughing together 50 years from now ❤️

  5. Hire a photographer who is comfortable in all lighting scenarios. A natural light only photographer will no doubt give you stunning portraits, but may not know how to capture your reception intentionally. Look at full galleries and make sure they know how to use artificial light and how to get fun dancing photos.
